Visit Sabiny households and traditional farms to learn about local customs, food production, and rural life. These respectful community encounters offer genuine insight while supporting local residents.
Drive northwest through Soroti and Lira, passing farms, villages, and open savannah landscapes. Stop for lunch in Lira before continuing to Murchison Falls National Park.
In the evening, visit the Top of the Falls, where the Nile forces itself through a narrow gorge before plunging into the valley below. Enjoy the roar of the water, the cooling spray, and a memorable sunset over one of Uganda’s most dramatic natural landmarks.
Set out early for a game drive in the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park. Look for elephants, lions, buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, hartebeests, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, and other savannah wildlife.
After lunch, enjoy a boat safari along the Victoria Nile toward the base of Murchison Falls. The riverbanks offer excellent opportunities to see hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, and abundant birdlife. In suitable wetland areas, lucky visitors may also spot the rare shoebill stork.
All park activities follow Uganda Wildlife Authority regulations, including staying on designated routes, keeping a safe distance from wildlife, avoiding litter, and never disturbing animals.
Travel south through Hoima and lush countryside toward Fort Portal, a gateway to Uganda’s tea-growing region, crater lakes, and the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains—the legendary “Mountains of the Moon.”
Enjoy views of traditional homesteads, cultivated hillsides, and village life along the way.
Spend the day in the forests around Kibale searching for chimpanzees and other primates. Depending on conditions and wildlife movement, you may also encounter red colobus, black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys.
Your local guide will share insights into the forest’s plants, birds, animal tracks, and ecological relationships. Keep noise low, follow your guide’s instructions, and maintain a respectful distance from wildlife.
Travel toward Queen Elizabeth National Park, with scenic views of the Rwenzori Mountains along the route. An en-route game drive may reveal elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, hyenas, Uganda kobs, and other antelope species.
Later, enjoy a two-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. The channel is renowned for its large hippo populations and outstanding shoreline wildlife viewing. Watch animals come to drink while colourful waterbirds move through the wetlands.
Queen Elizabeth National Park supports more than 550 recorded bird species, making this cruise especially rewarding for photographers and birdwatchers.
Enjoy an early morning game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park’s varied landscapes of grassland, woodland, wetlands, lakes, and volcanic craters. Search for lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, Uganda kobs, topis, bushbucks, and defassa waterbucks.
After the game drive, travel toward Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, stopping for lunch en route.
Begin early for one of Africa’s most memorable wildlife experiences: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Accompanied by trained trackers and guides, hike through steep, dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The trek may take several hours, depending on the gorillas’ location and the terrain. Once you reach the family, observe quietly and respectfully as they feed, rest, and interact. Gorilla trekking follows strict conservation rules: visitor groups are limited to eight people per gorilla family, visits are limited to one hour, and trekkers must maintain a safe distance from the gorillas.getaway.co+1
If time and road conditions allow, continue to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight.
Drive to Lake Bunyonyi near Kabale, passing the steep terraced hills of the Kigezi Highlands. Surrounded by cultivated slopes and scattered islands, the lake is one of Uganda’s most scenic destinations.
Enjoy a relaxed lakeside day with optional canoeing, birdwatching, or a community visit. Support local artisans by purchasing crafts directly from community groups, and always ask permission before photographing people or homes.
Begin the journey east toward Jinja. Stop at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers to watch artisans create ceremonial drums using skills passed down through generations. This visit celebrates Uganda’s living heritage and supports traditional craftsmanship.
Continue to the Equator for photographs before arriving in Jinja in the late afternoon.
Choose one of two memorable Jinja experiences.
Option 1: Jinja City and Nile Tour
Explore Jinja’s historic streets and former industrial heritage, then visit the Source of the Nile, Bujagali Rapids, and nearby Mabira Forest. Look for birds, butterflies, and forest primates before enjoying lunch at the scenic Nile Village Hotel.
Option 2: Nile White-Water Rafting
Spend the day rafting on the Nile near Bujagali. The experience includes a safety briefing, professional river guides, morning refreshments, lunch, and end-of-day beverages.
Rafting is suitable for adventurous beginners and experienced participants, with trained guides, safety equipment, and support boats. Bring swimwear, secure footwear, sun protection, and a dry change of clothes. Participation is subject to age, health, water-level, and operator safety requirements.

This safari is designed to benefit both travellers and local communities. Guests are encouraged to respect cultural customs, ask permission before taking photographs of people, purchase crafts directly from artisans, follow park regulations, and minimise their environmental impact.
Gorilla trekking permits and conservation rules help protect Uganda’s endangered mountain gorillas while allowing visitors a carefully managed, ethical wildlife encounter.
