This short Uganda gorilla safari is designed for travelers who want an authentic, responsible wildlife experience without a long itinerary. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to roughly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it one of Africa’s most important gorilla conservation destinations.
Your trek takes you into a mist-covered ancient rainforest, where experienced trackers and guides help you locate a habituated mountain gorilla family. Beyond the gorillas, you will experience Uganda’s landscapes, rural communities, and the peaceful atmosphere of one of the country’s most celebrated protected areas.
3 breakfasts, 2 lunchs and 2 dinners
Depart Kampala early for the scenic drive southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey follows the shores of Lake Victoria before climbing through rolling hills, cultivated valleys, and traditional Ugandan communities.
Arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the late afternoon. Settle in, relax, and prepare for the following day’s gorilla trek. Your stay at a community-focused lodge contributes to local employment and conservation efforts around the park.
After an early breakfast, attend the pre-trek briefing at the park headquarters. You will then join trained guides and trackers for your gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
The trek may involve steep paths, thick vegetation, and uneven terrain, but the reward is extraordinary: a close, respectful encounter with a habituated mountain gorilla family. Watch as they feed, rest, play, and care for one another in their natural rainforest habitat.
After your permitted viewing time, return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy a relaxed afternoon surrounded by Bwindi’s forest scenery and birdlife.
Enjoy breakfast before departing Bwindi for the return journey to Kampala. Along the way, take in Uganda’s changing landscapes, stop for lunch en route, and arrive in Kampala in the early evening with lasting memories of your mountain gorilla encounter.
This safari supports sustainable tourism by combining gorilla conservation with benefits for communities living around Bwindi. Gorilla permits, local guiding, and community-based accommodation all help protect mountain gorillas and their forest habitat while creating meaningful opportunities for local people.
