Discover the best of Uganda’s wildlife on this rewarding 3-day safari to Murchison Falls National Park, the country’s largest and oldest protected area. Located in northwestern Uganda, the park covers 3,840 sq km and is defined by sweeping savannah grasslands, the Victoria Nile, and the dramatic Murchison Falls—where the Nile forces itself through a narrow 8-metre gorge.
This safari combines classic game drives with a scenic boat cruise along the Nile, offering excellent opportunities to see elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a remarkable variety of birdlife. You will also visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for an on-foot rhino tracking experience, making this an ideal short Uganda safari for travelers seeking wildlife, scenery, and authentic encounters.
3 lunchs, 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts
After an early breakfast, your driver-guide will collect you from your Kampala hotel at 7:00 am and brief you on the safari ahead. Travel northwest through Luwero, with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for guided rhino tracking. This is one of the few places in Uganda where you can observe rhinos on foot in a protected sanctuary.
Continue to Masindi for lunch, then enter Murchison Falls National Park. En route to the Top of the Falls, keep an eye out for warthogs, baboons, and other wildlife. At the falls, watch the Victoria Nile surge powerfully through the narrow gorge, an unforgettable photographic highlight.
Later, transfer to your lodge for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.
Begin the day with an early breakfast before setting out at 7:00 am with your ranger guide for a morning game drive. Murchison Falls is home to a rich mix of savannah wildlife, and you may encounter elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, antelopes, waterbucks, and numerous bird species.
Return to the lodge around midday to relax and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile toward the base of Murchison Falls. Along the riverbanks, look for hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and buffalo, while colorful bee-eaters, kingfishers, and other bird species add to the experience.
On arrival at the base of the falls, enjoy close views of the cascading water. If you wish, hike to the Top of the Falls, where your driver-guide will meet you for the return journey to the lodge. Enjoy dinner and your second overnight stay.
After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive as you make your way out of the park. This is another chance to spot wildlife feeding in the open grasslands, including buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, antelopes, and a variety of birds.
Leave Murchison Falls National Park and stop in Masindi for lunch before continuing to Kampala, arriving in the evening.
